Default Idle control valve? Where is it?

The car is a 2001 V70 Turbo. The problem is the idle gently oscillates between about 600 and 800 rpm.

I'm thinking that it is the idle control valve but I can't figure out where the danged thing is. I've googled it and can't find any worthwhile videos or photos.

So, question number one is "where the heck is the idle control valve?"

Question two is "Does this problem sound like it is the idle contol valve?"

Thanks.

There isn't one on that car. Try cleaning the throttle. Just don't spray anything directly into the throttle.

Really? No bypass for idle? Everything is controlled by the big butterfly valve?

How does one clean the throttle without spraying stuff into it?

Spray a lint free cloth and wipe it clean.

Now I have to ask, "Why shouldn't I spray anything into it?"

It's electronic. You can damage the potentiometers inside it. It may need replacement anyway, but cleaning is where I would start since its a lot cheaper.

Didn't think of the electronic thing. Cleaning is cheaper.

Regarding replacement. I've looked on line a bit and I read something about a recall on the ETM. Is that still in effect?

What about rebuilt units?

Also, I've seen some for sale and there seems to be a distinction between "yellow label" and "white label" units.

There was no recall for replacement. The recall was for the software. There was an extended warranty on the throttle, which has since expired.

Yellow labels are on the replacement throttles. White label means it is original.

I'd strongly recommend a rebuilt one instead of a used one.

Is the software in the main computer or is there a download directly to the ETM? My engine was replaced with a low mileage used one and I'm guessing that the ETM is not my original one.

I'd strongly recommend a rebuilt one instead of a used one.
That makes tons of sense. Where do I find rebuilt ETMs?

I found this which sounds like a new one

Genuine Volvo Throttle Body 8644347 - Free Shipping

and this which sounds like a technological improvement

Electronic Throttle Module (ETM) Turbo Pre-Programmed for Volvoxemodex US | xemodex US

Thanks for all of your help.

ETM software actually contains software for the ETM and ECM.

Xemodex is where I'd get a rebuilt one, so you already found it.

If the software was updated before the engine swap, would I need to get another update?

As of the last readout of your car, which was 10-15-2013, your ETM and ECM software is up to date. The throttle was replaced 3-22-2006 at 48370 miles.

That was the old engine :-(. I bought a used engine this summer when my head gasket blew and I doubt they pulled the throttle off the old engine.

It is interesting that all of the Volvo dealers share data like that.

Anytime the car is read out at the dealer, the information is updated in the database. What fault codes were stores at the time is also there, but only Volvo has access to that.
