No DTC display 2002 V70 cant see code display ...help!
 

Hello to all ...I'm one step short of pulling my gauge cluster for the re solder repair , but in the meantime, I need to read my codes for a coil? issue , but I cant get the display to read out could there be a bulb out onside of it? all of a sudden when I try to get the diagnostic display to appear it does nor function at all ...can anyone offer insight on this issue ...Thanks !

Specific Obd codes can only be retrieved using a scan tool.

I couldnt even see the display...! I pulled the cluster and ot appears the bulbs were bad ! both of them !

most big box repair stores like Autozone will loan you an OBD2 reader or you can buy a basic unit for about $30 at Harbor Freight. there's a port under the dash (usually on the drivers side). plug the reader into the port, turn the key to position 2 (ie dash lights go on but car is off - lol if you had a dash light...) and then follow the prompts on the reader. Typically coils are reported as misfire codes like P0301 is a misfire on cylinder 1. P0300 is a generic code 302 is cylinder 2 etc. Once you see a specific cylinder misfire, next step is to swap coils with an adjacent cylinder to see if the misfire moves with the coil. No need to replace all the coils, just the bad one (assuming that's the cause). Sometimes spark plugs or fuel pressure issus can also cause misfires but those won't move when you swap coils.

Howdy ,Thank You so much for the reply ... O have a OBD II reader , I couldnt remember of this car would display them on the screen at the lower left gauge panel...for a while my bulbs were burned out on my message panel ... Im used to the OBD I on my 7/9 cars ...

The only thing I have ever seen displayed related to codes (on some years) was a list of modules in the car and if there was a code present or not. With no specific info on what the code is.

If you can produce something different with specific information - please post a photo.

I believe you may be correct ... I'm still in learning mode with this V70...I'm a dark ages holdover from the 7/9 era ...I'm used to the OBD I setup ... Live n Learn I appreciate the feedback ,and insight from ANYONE that cares to pass it along !
