Default Check engine light on

2006 XC70 with 199,000 miles. Last weekend changed oil. From synthetic to conventional high mileage 10w30. Or 5w? The mechanic also added Blue Devil stop leak. I drove the Volvo a little more than an hour after service. This morning my check engine light came on. She seems to be running well, 26mpg. BUT, I thought when I went to start her she was slightly knocking. Any thoughts?

You need to get the CEL codes read - Autozone will "rent" a code reader (free in most places) or you can buy a OBD2 reader for as little as $40 at Harbor Freight. If you are knocking, you probably will get a P030X code indicating a misfire - which is most often a failed coil pack.

Im getting an OBD2 reader this week. We do have a local Harbor Freight Store. The check engine light did go off. I assume it was air in the gas tank???

Now another issue.

3 weeks ago my alternator belt broke and broke the pulley on the alternator. The system service urgent light and battery light came on. We replaced the alternator, belt and installed a new battery.

Last week my drivers front door window would not go down. I recalibrated and window works fine. A few days later the passenger front window would not go down. Recalibrate it and it works fine. This AM the SYSTEM SERVICE URGENT Light came on along with the battery symbol. It would go on and off. I then noticed my drivers window would not go down again. Recalibrated and it was back to normal. Drove the car 15 miles home, the system urgent light didn't come on for a few minutes then it did. When i arrived home, for the hell of it, i tried my front windows again. The drivers side was fine, but the passenger front again did not want to go down. I recalibrated it, it works again, i came inside and here i am. What is going on here? I am thinking my windows may be part of the issue. I know nothing about cars. I am hoping you might have a suggestion for me. Thanks all!!!

Default volvo power system failure urgent

I think the warning light actually read "power system failure urgent" along with RED triangle and Battery Symbol.

that's telling you the system voltage dropped below a threashold - typically indicating an alternator or cabling issue. Your loss of window calibration suggests to me that your system has had voltage drop outs. if you have a volt-meter handy, try measuring your car's voltage when that light comes on. If its less than say 14V, (ie 12.6V is the battery's voltage) you are running off the battery not the alternator. You may need to clean and retighen the cables to the battery or possibly may have a battery issue.

Default System Failure urgent light

new alternator was bad. Said I was running on battery. As you said. They replaced and showed new one charging at 13.9. BUT, the SYSTEM URGENT LIGHT, RED TRIANGLE and BATTERY LIGHTS are still on continually. Any thoughts?do I just need to get codes erased or is there still a problem????

Default Power system service urgent

battery is brand new. Will the POWER SYSTEM SERVICE LIGHT eventually go out or reset? Or do I need to have someone with odb2 reader reset? It’s freaky that it’s on continually. Alternator and battery brand new. Thanks

is CEL = check engine light? After installing 2nd alternator the above mentioned light is now on continually. Can I clear this with an OBD2 reader or do I have to go to a local Volvo dealer? An hour away.
