My 2007 XC70 is missing its rear-end towing bolt socket
I bought a 2007 Volvo recently, my first one in a couple of decades so a lot of "new" stuff to catch up on.
Going into the trunk I found the eye bolt that the owner's manual tells me is for towing purposes.
Neat!
Except, there's only a screw-in socket on the front bumper, nothing at all on the back. Just a little plastic flap and a big empty space behind it. I can't see anywhere it could fit in.
Is it possible
it was never there, or could it have been removed?
I'm wondering if the car even has a metal bumper under the plastic cover..?
My V70 has a threaded receptacle on the front bumper, recessed behind a cover like your photo. While my rear bumper has the same cover, there is not a threaded receptacle inside. Believe it or not, I found "hide-a-key" inside that the previous owner never a) knew about or b) revealed to me.
My guess is that towing is normally performed from the front...ie. your car is being towed, not pulling anybody anywhere.
Strange that the owner's manual shows that the car can be towed from the back with this towing eye-bolt. as well as the front.
If it wasn't such a big job, and I knew exactly how I'd take off the rear bumper just to have a look.
I've got a bad reversing sensor that I need to look at so maybe I will need to take off the bumper eventually after all...
