Default P2111 Code - Throttle Control Unit

Hey folks. So I got in my 2003 XC70 this past weekend and immediately noticed it was running/idling very rough and I got a warning message that indicated reduced engine performance and it threw a CEL. My scanner tells me it's code P2111 (throttle actuator control system - stuck open).

I've removed the throttle control unit and it had a fair amount of build-up, but didn't seem like enough to be problematic to me? I removed the throttle plate and thoroughly cleaned everything. I then popped the (5?) metal clips off of the 'control' box to inspect the connectors and gears. The gears were in good shape and I cleaned the contactors.

My question is this; is it worth my time to have done all this and now put the part back on to see if that fixed the problem, or once this occurs does the TCU need to be replaced?

Any and all advice will be very much appreciated!

P.S. Not sure if this helps, but here are the numbers the module had on it:

30650013 (located just below "VOLVO"
02W472 (just below aforementioned number)

I installed the clean TCU and the problem persists!

Does that mean the TCU is shot or does that mean I need to start looking at the accelerator pedal position sensor?

Thank you. Since I did not get any replies to my posts I went ahead and ordered a replacement accelerator pedal. I'm hoping to get it installed today and if that doesn't fix the problem I'll certainly be in touch. Thanks!

Hello Beau98, did the replacement pedal fix your problem? If not, did you ever get this resolved?

Well, I think it turned out that I had cumulative problems. I replaced the accelerator pedal and the issue improved notably, but still wasn't completely fixed. I gave up on the DIY approach and took it to the dealer. They diagnosed that the throttle control unit was bad (despite me having cleaned & inspected it) and replaced it. The car has run flawlessly ever since.

Good luck!
