Trying to get this Amazon running...

Hey, new member here, I apologize in advance if this is in the wrong place.

I just bought a 1969 volvo amazon 4 door for $300 after observing it in a yard for about a year wondering whose it was.
It has a B20B engine with a weber downdraft instead of dual SU's
(I have the SU's they just aren't installed)

I have been trying to get the thing running for a few days and it just isn't
starting. I don't think its an engine problem I think I must have the electrical wrong..
The guy I bought it from apparently doesn't have the key, so I hotwired it because I was excited

I cut, stripped, twisted the battery leads (two black cables on the solenoid together), and
cut, stripped the lead labeled "ST" and spark it on the battery leads.
This gives me good starter motor action but no start.

After I fired the starter motor just now, I noticed the little clear fuel filter has some fuel pooling in it, which I assume means the same lead that fires the starter motor also activates the fuel pump.

the other thing is, when I was trying to hotwire it originally(before cutting the "st" lead), I cut the lead labeled "igg" on the solenoid at first, which I assumed fired the starter. when I spark this wire on the battery leads,
while leaning the coil wire against the head cover, I was getting spark from the coil wire, but now I am not...
it could be that I had a battery charger hooked up to the points side of the coil (I watched a youtube vid on testing
the coil) but I don't remember, and the battery charger was returned from whence it was borrowed (I can do it
again if that seems like it could be why Im not getting spark from the coil anymore..).

so I twisted the "igg" wire back on it's post on the solenoid, and sparked the "st" and the batt leads and the engine still will not start. There is a smell of gas from the carb, and I squirted some in so ..
I assume it has to be an ignition problem.. distributor or plugs.

I bought new plugs today, will go install and report back.

any help w/ this is much appreciated!

thanks!

BrickBoard.com has more discussion of older cars.
You likely have a mechanical fuel pump which delivers when the engine cranks. A ballast resistor in the ignition circuit could be killing the power to the coil.
Find a Haynes manual to help yourself sort this out.
Have fun!

Thanks alot Ed!
I will go post this on Brickboard, see what i can figure out.
The guy should deliver my keys and a haynes manual today if i can get
Him off his butt.

If anyone has any ideas i guess still feel free to post them here
Help is still very much appreciated
