V40 Est Alarm problems

Hi,

Just found this forum, and I wondered if anyone might be able to help or advise me on problem that developed with my car over the weekend.

Basically the remote key fob you get for locking and unlocking the car has suddenly stopped working. On Saturday afternoon in the pouring rain I was standing there pressing the buttons but absolutely nothing was happening. The batteries are fine, they are only 3 months old, plusI put new ones in as well.

Completely weirdly however, a neighbour of mine who also has a V40 est on a T plate (mineson a P)had exactly the same thing happen at the same time. We both just looked over the road at each other in disbelief. So whats causing this?

The car does seem to pick up on a radio signal as the hazard lights will blink slighlty differently when you press and hold the button, but the alarm just cant be turned off. Anyone have any alarm expertise? or any good suggestions would be appreciated. The local Volvo dealer doesnt know either! Handy eh!

V40 Est Alarm problems

Hi,

Igot myVolvo S40 Sportlast September and I am also experiencing major problems with the alarm/remote key.

Basically what is happening is sometimes the remote key locks the car and activates the alarm and then when I return to the car it doesn't openit. I then need to manually open the car and this sets off the alarm.

This has happened to me now on several occassions with no apparent pattern. Sometimes it's the opposite of the above, ie. the remote key opens the car and de-activates the alarm and then doesn't lock it, leaving the car unalarmed.

If anybody else is having this problem I'ld like to hear from them and if anybody has a solution even better!

I've taken my car tothe local Volvo dealer, however as expected it works perfectly for them.Notwithstanding this they carried out a thorough check of the car butfound no faults.

Help !

V40 Est Alarm problems

I have an R-reg V40 2.0 CD with the identical problem.

The problem is back today!

Problemsstarted sept 2003.Since then the car has been back to volvo 7 times. This time I am going to insist that they replace the entire alarm system.

The fault only seems to start when the car is at home. Volvo reckon that it could be because I live 60m from a substation, however moving the car down the road does not alow the alarm fob to work.

The bizarre thing is that the car has never frozen while unlocked. ie I can always lock the car with the fob.

I really am at a loss with this and may have ot ditch a luverly car because of this one fault. Anyone fancy a joint response to BBC watchdog?
