960 to S80 Engine Swap
Greetings my fellow Volvo-ers,
I am looking for a new (used) car to replace my 960. The car has sustained extensive frame damage after colliding with a deer. The deer survived, but the car isn't worth fixing (it swiped the entire left side of the car). So I thought about getting another 960 and swapping the engines when it dies. The damaged Volvo has 88K+. But then I came across a S80 that was a bit more expensive, younger, more attractive, safer, etc. though has a lot more mileage. So my question is, would it be possible to swap a 960 engine into a S80 body? I believe it has the same 2.9L I6 engine, only the newer S80 is transversely mounted and front wheel drive, vs. the 960's RWD longitudinal. So is it possible? Practical? I know I wouldn't be able to use the same transmission if that decides to go, or body panelling/parts. Also, is the 960's B6204 (correct me if I'm wrong) engine, an interference, or non-interference engine. Thank you everyone who responds. -Justin |
RE: 960 to S80 Engine Swap
Not sure if anyone tried it yet.
I think there is minor differences between them. Not 100% sure if the mounting points are the same. The S80 also has VVT and the 960 doesn't. |
