How much $ to get good hp numbers?
Sorry for such a newb question, but i have been looking around for stuff to do to the s70 turbo (not glt)... My main goal is to get to the 400 whp mark, if not a little more!, and am wondering what mods it would take to get there and how much $ (estimated) for each part. I dont want to get a chip and have to change it everytime i get a mod etc... I know it is rather pricey to get hp and have money set aside for that i just want to know what i should be looking at.
Thanks, and sorry for the newb question again |

RE: How much $ to get good hp numbers?
thanks for the response and the site...
1 last question though - are 850 engine parts and s70 engine parts interchangeable? |
RE: How much $ to get good hp numbers?
Ok well first off do you have a budget? Second off any upgrades you do, you will want to get a proper ECU tuning otherwise your going to run into a load of troubles.
1. Start with a Stage 0 setup, go over to Volvospeed and check it out, it is in the pinned section in the PERFORMANCE forum. Are you running an HPT or LPT engine, just wondering? What year is your S70? 2. 3" downpipe to 3" free flowing CAT-back. I would have it custom made will cost less then any pre-made equipment. I would say it would run you around $500-$1000 to have it all made for you. And make sure you have it MANDREL bent for better flow. 3. You could get an EST intake, but your basically taking in hot air for a cool $189. Not worth it IMO. I would stick the the stock airbox. It is the best setup. 4. SAMCO turbo hoses for like $325 and or wait for the Stylin Motors INC. turbo hose kits to come out @ like $200. Also get their Vaccum lines as well $50. 5. Bigger injectors, RC has some for like $95 a pop I believe, or get Volvo upgrade ones for like $600 something all together. 6. Bigger turbo, 19T sounds about right. http://www.vptuning.com 7. FMIC setup, I bet would run around $500+ to have it custom made. 8. You need an ECU upgrade to maximize your cars performance from all the other performance parts. SpeedTuning USA sells one with a 12PSI/15PSI/17PSI program for $325, good chip. Upsolute sells a chip for $400, IPD sell one for like $900 something, and they are one of the best around, RICA (Sold by VPTuning.com) is like an $800 and is very good. I think a few people on Volvospeed or one person is using the CIVINCO setup, which I believe is a standalone system. Check it out over on VS. Also EST ( http://www.eurosporttuning.com ) sells and ECU upgrade for I believe $500 or something. Maybe more. 9. If your going to go faster you need to be able to stop faster. I suggest a BIG BRAKE KIT but you will need 17" or bigger rims to fit them. Also SS brake lines as well. A good vented disc and or crossdrilled rotors would be good to get and should come with the BBK. I am going to say $500 for this. 10. I would get a strut brace for good measure. OMP if you can find it. EST and IPD make nice ones. The Volvo dealer can get one too I believe. $150+ |
RE: How much $ to get good hp numbers?
cool, that has good info in there!! So basically your saying that i should get a 3" dp, 3" exhaust, bigger injectors, hoses, fmic, 19t turbo, and a chip and that will bring me to the 400whp mark? When you buy a chip and buy another mod i heard that you have to send it back to get reprogramed, but does that cost more money and which chip is the best for doing something like that?
My goal is 400whp... How much hp can the 19t handle? or would i have to go with a gt series like 28 or 30? Thanks for that reply though! Its hard looking at those sights that just sell parts and trying to figure out what i should get for my goals... |
RE: How much $ to get good hp numbers?
oh and its a 98 s70 that comes with the 236 hp or whatever... i dont know if that is the hpt or the other one... and not really much of a budget, just would like to get descent prices on the parts i buy
|
RE: How much $ to get good hp numbers?
Sounds like the HPT to me!!!

RE: How much $ to get good hp numbers?
Oh I would also get a Boost gauge if you haven't already to see what your boosting now and what your vaccum is as well. Autometer makes great ones, can get them on Egauges for like $50 some bucks. Great gauges.
Also I would get an EGT gauge from Autometer and also a Wideband 02 meter to see what your a/f ratios are. You can get an A-pillar pod from http://www.gaugepods.com It is like $60 and worth it. |
RE: How much $ to get good hp numbers?
is there somewhere where it has people's cars and the mods they have and the hp they are putting out so i can look at what other people are doing? Because i have looked at other car's sites and they usually have places for that kind of stuff...
|
RE: How much $ to get good hp numbers?
Is your car manual or automatic? If auto you might want to do a manual swap. It might be worth it.
|
RE: How much $ to get good hp numbers?
manual
|
RE: How much $ to get good hp numbers?
yea, i am definately gonna get guages, im not gonna do stuff without being able to make sure nothing else goes wrong lol, thanks for the site that sells them though!

RE: How much $ to get good hp numbers?
Awsome!
Oh and you can buy an ECU that is for your car and send it out to an tuning company to have an upgrade done so you have ZERO downtime. So you will have a stock ECU and a upgraded ECU. And when you need to have the upgraded one updated due to new parts, you swap them and sent the one out to be updated. |
RE: How much $ to get good hp numbers?
cool, how much does it generally cost to get updated after you already have bought the tuning? And which company is better after you start doing mods? because i see that most chips just show stock vs chipped but dont really show anything for when someone has upgraded other parts...
and you think that these parts will put me up towards my goal? doesnt seem like you really have to buy a lot then... thanks a lot for the info by the way!! oh, do you have anything done to your s70? |

Yes these parts with the proper tuning which does include a proper ECU tune and dyno testing. Your going to want to DYNO stock, and get HP and Torque figures as well as A/F figures. This will help the chip upgraders. After you get your new parts I would suggest another dyno. Then send that info into the chiptuner. It helps them out greatly. Oh it might not seem like a lot, but it is. It costs the green to the extreme. -------------------------------------------------------- Yes I do have stuff done to my car. 1999 Volvo s70 awd 78k miles PA http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2252902 Exterior: EST mesh grille, EST eyebrows, 15% rear tint and 35% front, E-code turn signals and headlmap lens, Sylvania Silverstar turn sginal bulbs and LOW beams Interior: Lotek triple gauge pod, Autometer Phantom Series boost/vac oil pressure and voltmeter gauges, Aluminum lock knobs Suspension: EST strut brace Engine: I5, 13G, SpeedTuning ECU set @ 12PSI, TurboXS Type H-RFL https://pic18.picturetrail.com/VOL88.../135471379.jpg COMING SOON! RE: How much $ to get good hp numbers?
