Pouring coolant from back of engine, help!
 

I recently got at 1988 Volvo 740 turbo as a project, it has around 200k miles on and ran fine for a few days after replacing basic fluids.

When driving home yesterday my engine started producing thick white smoke, I got home to check it out and my coolant was empty and the entire engine bay was soaked with coolant. Checked the radiator and the coolant reservoir, both look ok but when I tired to top it off it just drains out near the back of the engine bay. I found a cracked hose that went to the heater core and thought that fixed the problem but it’s still pouring out. I’ve been searching for a leak or a hose that’s cracked/popped off but I can’t find anything as the intake manifold is in the way and it’s difficult to get around it. Hoping this happened because I just worked my heater a bit too much on an old car that was sitting for a while and not a bigger issue. car also has some fuel delivery issues but not sure if that’s relevant for this.

Any help is appreciated, I’m also new to Volvo and Volvo forms so I’m pretty uneducated in this area.

2 heater hoses back there - one goes a pipe on the back of the engine (that wraps around under the exhaust manifold and plugs into the back of the water pump near the lower hose) and the other goes to a fitting on the head under the intake manifold (that's not easy to get to). In the middle of that hose is a heater control valve that when old, the plastic breaks in half.

Replace both hoses, and the valve if you wish - but the valve is only turned off when your slide knob on the heater/ac control is pushed to Max ac (or recirc). So you can leave the valve off if you wish (cheaper that way). Just don't cut the new hose to be able to insert the valve. The hoses might be 3514990 and 1378850
