Noob question here. I have a 2009 V70 III, a 2.0 diesel engine with a manual six speed gearbox. Can I even upgrade the gearbox to an automatic one? I know it would be a hell of a hassle to reprogram the brain of the car but right now I am having trouble finding if there is even an automatic box that would fit my engine. Engine code is D4204T.

 

Going from a manual to automatic can be done one of two ways: Hard way is to find a donor car and swap in the transmission, wiring harnesses, computers, shifer, ignition swith etc and you're there. Easy way is to sell your car (as a 2009 it has a reasonable resale value) and buy a car with the configuration you want. Easy way will also have a significant cost advantage assuming you buy a 2009 V70
