1990 740 Turbo idle question
I just replaced the intake manifold gasket, the throttle body gasket, and cleansed the throttle body. After plugging everything back in and replacing the IAC hoses, I turned the car on and the idle was higher than before at about 1500 rpm’s. After giving it a rest and trying again it idled at 1000-1200 then when I shifted gears to drive it idled normally at 700.
any reasons why it idles higher when in P and N position than in R and D?
thanks!

Thanks Hoonk, that makes sense. No I havent adjusted made those adjustments. How do I go about doing that?
I’ve looked online and at the Haynes manual but im having a hard time identifying specific parts mentioned in the threads so I’m a bit clueless here - ha!

Set screw on the side, controls how far the throttle is open at idle. Microswitch on the other side is set to click when throttle is slightly opened - really should block off one of the hoses going to the idle motor/iac/airvalve whatever you want to call it during the idle adjustment - easiest to clamp one of the hoses off (at least years ago when those were not rock hard!)
