1998 V70 climate control issue

compressor is 3 years old and the clutch works, it cycles on for 3 seconds and off for 3 seconds.the freon was good the last time i check about a year ago. the new blower motor works. the fuses look good the climate control lights flash amber 3 times and then show a steady green, the air that comes out is outside ambient temperature even after 30 minutes of operation. the external temperature no longer displays. is there more than one ECU? could the ECU be bad and cause the climate control to not function? what should i check for?

I wish I knew. The whole electronic CC is just a mystery to me. I also have a 98 and I want to keep it indefinitely, so I would like to be able to fix the ECC.

If the unit flashes 3 times then the brain knows there is a problem, but I guess ideally the dealer would have been able to communicate with it and see what it thinks. I think ECU communication could actually affect it. There are a couple of reasons the ECU might shut down the compressor.

I am going to buy a shop manual on ebay and see what all is included. It's pretty cheap.

i hadn't realized that the 3 amber flashes was an error message, thanks.my friend was saying there is a deeper system than the one accessed from the ECM in the center console.sometimes my friend knows what he's talking about and other times not. he said i should try to buy some volvo software that will diagnose the car. it might be a better investment than a shop manual, if it actually exists. i am not talking about the regular error code reader or the blue tooth/Wifi error code reader. but i'll try that, now that i'm thinking about it, i think the error codes eventually drift off into cyber space, so i'll generate the error and go to the auto zone and see what it says, thanks for the response, i'm on the move again
