Talking 2005 Volvo s60 VS 2006 Volvo s40

Hello everyone,
Well as you can see I am a new member here and hopefully soon to be a brand new vovlo enthousiast!
I am currently on the market looking for cars and decided to try a Volvo. Now I've always been a BMW and VW person (currently own a vw jetta)

Now both cars that I have mantioned above fit in to my price range of under 20 000 canadian. Having zero previous experience with Volvos, I need your opinion guys.

Which model is better handling wise, mechanically and in any other aspect?

All input will be appreciated!

If you have any personal experiences or any other suggestions feel free to comment as well!

Thanks!

I will be taking both cars for a test drive this saturday, from what I have seen from the photos though, the S40's interior is REALY spartan. While the S60 looks more confortable.
Any takes on that?

+1 That's not a fair comparison. That's apples and oranges. 2 different categories too with different demographics. I do agree that it depends on what size car, gas mileage leg room, trunk size motro size and the list goes on and on........ No doubt both are great cars in their own right, I personally would rather have the S60 because its a little smoother and bigger in space for me to stretch in. I would just make your self a list of things you are looking for in a vehicle and take that with you when you drive it. At the end of the day it is you writing a check for a vehicle you will be stuck with (figuratively speaking)... Good luck with whichever you choose. Both are Volvos so it's a WIN/WIN situation... Here's a little info to help you along.

I'm an owner of the Volvo S70, which is the predecessor model to the S60, so I would suggest the S60. Also, if you're taller than 5'8"-ish...you'd probably want the S60 or else you'd feel really cramped.

Thank you all for the constructive replies!
I believe that the s40 is pretty much the same size as a vw jetta and I feely quite crammed in mine. Also I am strongly considering the AWD version of the S60 due to the Canadian snowy winters
Oh well will see how both of them drive this saturday! Cant wait!
