Default Black sticky spongy foam from air vents

I have had a1989 760 Turbo since new, it just turned 75k miles , driving the other day with the a/c on, i noticed that i was getting nasty black peices on me what is best described as rotten black sticky foam. Today i removed the air vent's,in the dash and found larger 1/8" thick peices stuck behind them waiting to be blown out.
I would appreciate anyone with any idea's or ananswer, before i strip the whole dash out.!

The foam is originally to seal all the joints in the vents.
After a while the foam falls out.
There really isn't all that much you can do but have it all blow out.
