Choosing between 2 Volvos!!
Hey there guys.
Got a major dilemma. I am looking for a second hand Volvo and have narrowed it down to 2. both are 2004 F/L models. 1: 2.4lT Auto with 170000kms on it. 2: 2l Manual with 144000kms. Anyone out there got any opinions on reliability etc? This is my first Volvo so out of my league here! ANy help would be great thanks. Craigh |
I'd get the non-turbo manual, but I'm not a Volvo guru. Now if you were asking about Fords...
Lower miles on that one and it has been my experience that Turbo equipped cars have been driven a lot harder. Also, manuals are just more pleasant to drive than slushboxes. |

Thanks bud. Your logic makes sense. Hell on the test drive I drove the turbo harder lol. The worst thing is the Turbo was a nicer drive and better finished but everyone I have spoken to agrees with you. The manuals are better and give less hassle. They are also cheaper to maintain as they have no belts but a timing chain and a clutch is cheaper to replace than an Auto gear box. Thanks again for your help. Craigh |
I should add that I'm a complete hypocrite. I just bought a C70 Turbo Monday.:D
When looking at a standard shift car: If you hear a clank sound (very sharp noise) as you shift in 1st or reverse the throw out bearing is getting ready to say goodbye to the world. Not a deal killer, clutch kits are pretty reasonable, but obviously something to bring up when discussing price. The manual shift car you're looking at is about the right mileage to start having clutch issues if it had a poor/inexperienced driver. |
Thanks again.
I have booked it into Volvo tomorrow morning for a 110 point check which will tell me anything that is ready to go walkies so I can get the dealer to repair it or take it off the sale price. Again thanks man. I still like the Auto as it had all the buttons and the brilliant finish but I want hassel free driving as much as possible so thats why I am taking the experts advice and looking at the manual. Thanks again Jay |
