engine shaking

Hi I have 1995 Volvo 960, and I've had this for 10 years. It has 205K miles. i've been keep the maintance really good. recently i've been having problem with the engine. The engine is shaking, I took the car to mechanic shop, they told me that the car is misfiring, it has a bad 4th ignition coil, I went to the closest AutoZone and purchased the coil and replaced it, the problem still there, any ideas what the problem could be? I don't think I can ever get another good car like that. please please please...

Ok, shaking is a pretty generic term, but I'll try to throw some things out there for you.

First, is there a check engine light? If the first mechanic "somehow knew" it was a cylinder 4 ignition coil, he probably got it from an engine code. If there is a check engine light, take the car to autozone and have them give you the code. The actual code number (like P06). Then look that code up and see what its for. That will give you some good clues. My guess is its a "Misfire" code based on what the mechanic did.

It could also be the spark plug and plug wire, not just the ignition coil. If they are original, they need to be changed.

Are there any noises, or just shaking? Any ticking, knocking etc? Good luck.

Have to agree with the other member with regards to the term "shaking". If it is like heavy vibration on something of that matter you can feel at the wheel. Could be a suspension issue or possibly a belt issue. More description of the symptoms especially after replacing the ignition coil.

I was inspecting the car to see if I have any vacume lick, do I went and got a new air mass meter boot and idle air control valve. That helped a little because it doesn't shake as hard as it used to.
