Half-shaft problems - xc70

I recently replaced the drivers side halfshaft on my 98 XC70. I had some difficulty installing it (it slipped out several times when I tried it out) but finally managed to seat it properly (or so I thought, at least it doesn't slip out now). The problem is, it's fine at low speeds, but when I hit highway speeds it shudders quite badly under acceleration. Could this be a problem with installation, or is it more likely that I damaged the part while installing it? If it is a problem with installation, I would appreciate any pointers on getting the shaft properly seated on the engine side!
Thanks for any help you can give...

First jack the car up and secure properly.
Then hold the inner part of the axle at the transmission.(part you had trouble setting in all the way).
Then move the wheel back and forth trying to feel for play in the inner joint.
Maybe the axle is bad.

Thanks for the tip! I tried it out, not sure exactly what it's supposed to feel like, but the shaft itself doesn't seem to have any play in it - as far as inside the joint, i'm not sure. However, since this seems to be a symptom of a bad joint (the vibration i'm getting under acceleration), and since it was fine before I "fixed" it, then I guess i'll change it out. Is FCP ok for this part?
