headlights

I've seen cars on the road that have dark tinted headlight lenses. How does that effect the brightness of the lights? I ask in order to determine what I should do about my dirty, yellowed lenses that are on my 740 now. I'm trying to stay away from replacing them with OEM lenses, which are a bit out of my budget. So I was wondering if adding the smoke headlights is a good idea.

RE: headlights

How bad are they?

If they really arent that bad go to the Auto parts store and pick up a thing of Mothers Mag and aluminum polish.

Then polish the Headlights with it.
Make sure you use Elbow Grease and work at it.

They will come out alot better than they are now.

I do it on the Stang all the time.

RE: headlights

They're not that bad, really. They just bug me when I look at them 'cause they've got this mucky pale yellow hue. I've tried rubbing compound, but that just made them shiny and yellow. I also thought about ever so carefully sand blasting them with a really fine grit. Someone told me they'll crack under the pressure, but I think it's all in the wrist. Just a though. You think aluminum polish would have a different effect?

I also thought about getting GT Styling headlight covers, but for the life of me, I can't find any for my year model. They make sets for practically every other model volvo, but not the '90 740! I posted something in the 740 forum about interchangeability of headlights between the 740 and the 760, 940, etc. for 1990. I could find sets for those models, no problem.

RE: headlights

I have Blue lights in my car (Headlights that is)
They were so yellow I couldn't see the Beam from the bulbs.
I took them out one day and sat in my Chair while watching TV polishing them. In the end Nice Blue Beam and looked clear again.

I think the Aluminum polish is a little more course than the rubbing compound.
Has always worked good for me.
