Default Problems with Mass Air Flow

Hi, I'm new to this forum and have a question about my 2006 XC90 2.5lt turbo. I am having problems with the mass air flow sensor. I have replaced it twice and am still having stalling/sputtering at idle. What else could it be? Would changing the air filter help? Please, any ideas would be great. I've only owned this car for 4 months. I can tell there is something wrong besides the sputtering at idle, i am not getting good gas mileage.

You may have an air leak from a hose. I replaced my MAF sensor, and I noticed one of the air hoses has rotted where the clamp holds it in place. Once I replaced the air hose the cars runs like a champ. The hose I replaced was very cheap and in abundance at most auto parts stores.

If you have a vacuum leak somewhere in the system, it will cause the car to idle rough, open the hood and see if you can hear any unusual hissing.

Just changed the MAF again with an original part and still the code did not go off. I could not hear any sounds as if something was leaking and the hose appeared to be ok, but obviously something is wrong. Is my only choice to take it to volvo and have them check it out? Any other suggestions?

To adequately search for a vacuum leak, you'll need to do more than listen. There are two safe ways to do it...either using propane or carb spray. With the carb spray and engine running, spritz the ends of the hoses and listen for a change in the idle of the motor...if you hear a change, you've found your leak. Using propane, I unscrew the burner from a torch and set it aside. Slide a 3 foot piece of vac hose over the copper pipe of the torch and turrn the gas on. Hold the end of the hose near the vacuum hoses as well as all along the base of the intake manifold. Again...any change in the idle (should idle faster) and you've found your leak. How many miles on the car?

If you've replaced something twice with the same result, it is not the problem.
Also, try to post in the correct forum next time.

Regards, Andrew.

is there any check engine light?? I suggest you get a vida scan & proper diagnosis before you put in anymore new parts, that's just a waste of money.
