Replacing rivets (a hack)
Thought I’d share a fix (hack if you prefer).
Don’t know about other manufacturers, but Volvo has engineered a mess of rivets throughout the body, made so that removal is achieved only by destruction. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/volvofo...c4bccf70ce.jpg Rather than perpetuate that stupidity, I came up with a field expedient means of replacing rivets with ordinary bolts. ;) Point of doing this is to secure the parts with REMOVABLE bolts, like the rest of Western Civilisation uses. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/volvofo...fe25012beb.jpg Problem was, how to secure the nut end of the bolt combination to allow tightening/removal by one end only—the secured end being out of reach behind a panel. Solution was to heat weld spare plastic bits round the nut end. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/volvofo...6d6ac4f632.jpg |
A hack indeed. Why not just rivet it back together?

It will work but I'd buy or borrow a riveter to do the job. It would just be so much easier.

Whatever works is good.
I like the approach the OP came up with. |
