Rim Job: Time to clean those rims!
Any recommendations on how to clean 20+ years of grime off of stock 240 rims? Would like them looking somewhat mint before I throw new tires on them.
Pressure wash? Elbow grease? Soda pop? |
Surprised no one responded. I had brake dust and rust deposits caked on my S60 wheels. Plenty of trips to the self-wash with liberal applications of parts store cleaners and foaming brushes only went so far. I thought they were toast to be honest. Luckily, there was a Groupon for a local detailing service. It was cheap enough so I thought I would give it a try. Wow! That's all I could say. The wheels came out looking like new. The service manager did tell me they had to apply the wheel cleaner twice, but considering I had scrubbed those wheels at least a dozen times with little effect I would say whatever they used is amazing stuff. I imagine it is something with a fancy-schmancy name. If you are looking for products yourself, look into P21S Super Strength or Griot's Heavy Duty wheel cleaner. Multiple applications will be needed.

love rim jobs
lol in all seriousness, purple super clean and a wyp-alll shop towel and 20 minutes. Dont forget to dilute or it will take any finish off. |
I use some orange scented degreaser stuff - one time gets them clean!
Armour All Wheel Protectant is well worth a try - come out looking like new and stays clean for a month or so unless it rains. PS The orange stuff attract wasps - I sprayed mine and left them sit while I went inside for a few minutes, came out and picked one up- yowzer! 4 stings! the others had them under the rim too. |
