Sell Volvo 1993 240 or 1993 940?

We own a 1993 240 with 312,000 miles and a 1993 940 with 175,000 miles. Both are in good condition with no rust. With maintenance costs and parts availability in mind, which vehicle should we sell? Thanks.

Those are both oranges. Doesn't matter, both cars have had a lot of improvements over the years and both were phased out about the same time. If either is a wagon keep it just for more utility option. You should be able to keep them on the road for years to come thanks to companies like iPd and FCP.

Thank you for the prompt response. But if one was a betting man, which orange would you elect to sell/keep?

As much as I love 240's, I'd let it go. Nearly double the miles on the chassis, less interior room, and...contrary to what some folks say...many parts are beginning to be difficult to find. To be sure, the 240 is a classic and the selling prices are going back up. But the trim, upholstery, body parts....all becoming increasingly difficult to source. And, every now and then, I find items that IPD carried 5 years ago are ...gone. Still...faced with that situation, I'd probably just get rid of a family member...less emotional that way!! LOL

I guess I'm with Swiff. Mainly because the 940 is the newer body. But like Swiff says, it's hard to find nick-nack stuff. As for what you need to keep the car servicable, that stuff should be easy (brake parts, motor parts, gaskets, etc.).

I'm actually getting a little nervous myself. Since I have lost my garage. A garage causes a car to last a lot longer, not in the elements as much. I've actually started to consider storing spare parts for future use/maintenance. The main problem is, as these cars race for the salvage yard, quality parts are going to become hard to find. A company that sells 10,000 spring seats may disappear in 6 years when they are only selling 800 spring seats. At that point you're left with who will suppy you parts reguardless of the quality. I'm thinking about getting a spare AC evaporator, heater core, and a few other parts. Volvo has already stopped making several parts for the 850's. Soon things like dash dimmers, power seat motors, seat heaters will be a thing of the past.
