STUMPED. XC60 '11 a/c service ports?
Hello Everyone, Glad to be part of this Volvo Forum.
Well, We (wife's) have a 2011.5 XC60 3.2L It currently has 62,500 miles (yes, Just out of warranty) a/c isn't blowing cold. I popped the hood to only find 1 "6Nm" service port. I looked (traced) the a/c lines and didn't find the Low side service port. So, I called the Parts Dept. (Volvo) Nick said it's a screw-in kit for $55. Do I need this "kit" or is he just selling something I don't need? Also, exactly where is the Low side a/c service valve? Thanks for any info n help. |
I have no idea what Nick is talking about. The other port is under the cowl cover.

ES6T Thank you for your response.
Pardon my asking But "under the cowl cover" is exactly where? I saw where and how they put the battery. But I didn't see/find what you said. Please explain. Thank You. |
The cowl cover is the black plastic piece along the base of the windshield. Remove the clips on the passenger side and bend it up.

Thank You very Much ES6T!
The Wife will be so happy to finally have Cold Air! Just wonder why she's low? I didn't find any oil on the hoses/ fitting Bone dry? Maybe at the service valve cores? |
I haven't seen any AC leaks on those as of yet, aside from the leaking compressor drain plug that had a recall. But that was earlier XC60s I believe.
|
Mhmm, Interesting? I'll look and feel for any oil there. Thanks again.
Guess that's why we never buy any "1st year New models" bc of the possible defects the hadn't found out about yet. Your a real life saver ES6T! Thank you so very Much. Now just waiting for my wife, so I can check out under the cowl and charge up the a/c. |
Up Date;
1st off, Thanks to ES6T. Wow, Huge amount of room under the cowl. It took a full 12oz can and still needed the 2nd can but only about 1/3-1/2 of it. When I removed the service port cap I saw and felt oil. So I found the leak. Valve core issues. Robinaire makes a valve core removing tool (O'reilly, around $80) that you won't have to blow or reclaim the charge. It isolates the a/c circuit and you may loose a .10 oz or less. The special core tool is kind of costly vs just doing it the old fashion way... reclaim, vacuum, triple evac, fine tune w/ virgin R134a |
If there was a leak, you should do it the right way anyway. You don't want air in the system.

Exactly what I'm thinking. It was fairly low, low enough not to cool.
I'm currently looking for an adapter for the low side w/ fitting that hooks to my hvac manifold gauges to pull a deep vacuum. Then charge it to proper specs. Of course after I replace my valve cores. |
