T5's BOOST QUESTION
 

Hi guys, who owns a HPT T5's do you get full boost through all gears 1st & 2nd i get 0 psi positive boost pressure, 3rd gear i get around 8psi DO I HAVE A PROBLEM HERE as ive heard c70 t5 boost from 3rd gear high pressure normal through 1&2 gears ?

I don't believe it matters what gear you are in, if you hit the gas hard enough, you should get boost. Also, how are you measuring boost? Do you have any leaks in the vacuum lines going to the boost guage?

Mash the pedal. HOw is the boost at WOT?

C70 T5 COPUE 2.3L 2001 ME7.0 BOSCH ECU
1st gear holding at 3000rpm foot flat down to 6000rpm with 0 psi boost pressure straight into 2nd gear negative boost pressure unto 3500rpm vacuum at 20-25 inHg boost pressure then climbs upto 0 psi at 4500rpm keeping on the throttle to 6 grand into 3rd climbing between 3000-4000rpm i start to get positive boost pressure upto 8 psi @max rpm. Ive looked at the ECU NO fault codes stored ,also pipes ,hoses arnt a questions all brand new and secured with high pressure hydraulic hose clamps new actuator diafram no smoke from turbo or any in pipes I have also done a full vacuum system test by pressurising through the turbo i did find a minor leak @ the intercooler but repaired that.the only thinkl concerning me to this fault it the boost control selonoid situated side of air filter box but i would have thought a fault would have come up if malfuncting

yes its a manual tech

I am going to hazard a guess and say you have a vac leak somewhere (like the line to the boost gauge), causing it to read funny.

Drive the car around -- is there a notable difference in acceleration and general performance when the gauge reads 8psi in 3rd vs. 0psi in 1st and 2nd? If there is, it's a turbo problem (meaning the gauge is reading right, and something wrong with your boost system), and if there isn't, then it's a gauge problem (meaning you're pushing the same amount of boost, but your gauge is telling you otherwise).

had 2 boost gauges on already ruled out the possibilty.there is alot more power when its boosting in 3rd noticable,no leaks already tested

Alright then, it's a turbo issue.

maybe you have an exhaust leak somewhere? I can't think of any logical reason why you would boost differently at the same RPMs in different gears.

Maybe your boost computer is messed up?

Could also try swapping the selonoid (TCV) with a friends?

another good idea, turbo solenoid might be acting up.

edit\\ if you don't have any friends with turbo cars, a quick stop by the JY could never hurt. assuming they have turbo T5 cars at your local yard

Only thing.... I believe that some members have been having trouble with IPD's HD TCV.....JY FTW.

+1. cheap parts, 30 day return policy for a refund or credit if they don't work, it's all good.

Well first off the ECU cuts boost in first gear till a certain RPM on the manual transmission cars. That's why I am thinking it is something in the ECU that is causing the problem.
