Default V70 - advice request

Hi, I'm looking to buy a V70 for my son and have a couple of ???

1. We are looking at a V70 T, 2001 with 93,000km on the clock.
I have heard that the turbo needs a major service/ replacement at
about 120,000km and it can be quite expensive. Is this true.

2. We are also looking at a 1998 V70 (not turbo) with 166,000km.
Will there be much more trouble free life in this car?

Thanks for your help

Welcome to the forum. Glad to have you with us.

Your first question cannot be any farther from the truth. I had an 850 wagon, which is the same engine and turbo as the V70, and it has 200K miles on the original turbo and it was still going strong. As long as the oil was changed on time and the car was well maintained, you will not have an issue.

The non-turbo in theory will be more reliable mainly because there are less moving parts. That being said, the turbo model is extremely reliable and it all comes down to if the car was well maintained. Also, the non-turbo is super slow so if he is going to be driving in a city type environment, I would get the turbo as a safety precaution.
