Volvo imported from Germany?

Nice forums you have here.

I'm looking into buying a used 99 V70 AWD Cross Country Wagon, the first post in the carfax report says it was imported from Germany in 2002. Is that unusual? It has what looks like a decent history past that, only one owner (since in the US) just thought it was wierd that the first entry was in 2002 at 60,000miles.

btw its at dealer right now, looks like they bought it at auction so they dont have any specifics.

thanks for your insight.

If it's imported from Germany, that is very unusual. But if the price is right, and the car is good, I would jump on it.

European cars have better headlights than DOT spec. They have a better beam pattern and shoot further. I don't know any other Euro-spec features, but it'd definetely be cool if you had a European car.

It could have been imported by someone in the armed forces. Lots of people that I know take an older car over, since if they have one shipped over they can have one shipped back. Once they get there they buy a BMW, Mercedes or possibly in this case a Volvo and have it shipped back to the states. Not that uncommon around Fort Knox.

European gasoline seems to use higher-octane rating; some lower 90's for regular and upper 90's for premium, so should you decide to buy it, I would stick with premium 93 octane in the U.S. Also, it may or may not have different OBD-II protocol but some members here should be able to help you with it too.

Best of luck to you,

JPN

Thanks for the replies, good info. I'm gonna have the auto P.I. give it the once over before I buy it just to be sure. I'm new to Volvo's so its great to have a resource like this. The one I'm looking at has 119,000 miles, so about half of those are european miles.
