Volvo S40 Seems to have gas leak?

I just purchased a 2001 S40. It seems to have a gas leak (i think). It's hard to start, like it's out of gas, but does start. When doing normal driving it does fine, but when you give it the gas, to pass or pull out in a hurry, it hesitates bad. Also, after driving it, there is a faint smell of gas. What could be the issue?

Fuel pressure regulator.

Thanks for your quick reply. It was the rubber vacuum elbow for the FPR, It had a crack in it.

That shouldn't cause that. A leaking regulator will. Was there fuel in the elbow?

I don't really remember if it had any gas in it. I'm sorry, I just assumed that the crack in the rubber 90 was the cause. I did replace the FPR and the vacuum lines and the car runs fine now :) Thanks for your info!
