Were the RWD Volvos really the last of the good ones!
After owning a few really great Volvos from back in the 200-series days, I'm back to trying to find another exceptional Volvo in the $5K range. After a LOT of research, I keep coming back to the 940's being the last of the "300,000 mile Volvos." I've read hundreds of reviews now and I haven't found a single FWD Volvo model (or even the 960 RWD cars) that doesn't return one problem after another. They seem to all be unreliable money pits, whereas the old RWD ones ran forever.
Has Volvo really sold out its loyal followers, or am I not getting something here?
Any opinions here would be helpful!
Thank you!

A well maintained 850 / S/V70 will out drive and outlast a 240/940 but does require more repairs. I wouldn't call them money pits but there will always be a trade off to performance.
Now my 960 was bullet proof. I really had no problems with them. Rode them hard and put them up wet.
The 740 I had was by far the lowest maintenance car I have ever owned. I do understand your point but we named it Grace for a reason.
