XC90 advice
So Volvo newbie here - this is more of a would-you rather question based on your experiences with Volvo - would you rather buy an XC90 T8 2017 Hybrid with 20K miles, or a new XC90 T6 for the same price? Cost is around 55K. Explanations for your preference would help. Any pros and cons of buying a one-year vehicle with those many miles on it? Thanks in advance.
My other option is a Toyota Highlander Hybrid, but that will probably be around 40K. A new T8 Inscription Hybrid is out of my price range. |
Just a personal prejudice based on experience. i will never (again!) buy a new model anything. The few times I have have put me on a first name basis with everyone in the service departments of the respective makes. Concerning Volvo specifically - look at first year S80 (which incorporated new technology for Volvo, not just a new model).
While the power of the hybrid is enticing given it's weight i would just go gas, Volvo has plenty of experience with turbos and mine have all proven bulletproof. Plus, that a good piece of warranty you are giving up with the T8 considering the equal price. PERSONAL OPINION FOLLOWS _ READ AT OWN RISK. My XC90 was one of the shortest ownership experiences I've had, 1 year - not really a bad car but it's an odd duck in my book. Neither my wife nor I liked the thing. For all it's size it really isn't a substitute for a true full size SUV and yet it feels much more cumbersome that the 60 which is more nimble and 'balanced' feeling. FWIW, one of my nephews sold his after a year as well for much the same reasons. Mine was replaced with an MDX BUT - I have since had about 4 loaner XC60's and rented one twice on trips and my wife and I are looking at replacing the aging MDX with an XC60. The price difference makes the Inscrioption much more doable and for 1 through 4 people it is very capable and comfortable, even on the highway but nice in town. |
