Welcome.

I had a remap done on my S60R last year. It was made by Elevate and really made the car come to life. What remap did you use?

duncan001 Sep 13, 2011 12:42 AM

Im not sure !!!!!! But it was done by Frieling racing and i cant believe the power that the car gained !!!! It went up by 30 kw.....do you think this can harm my engin in any way ??????? or is this a normal gian for a remap ??

fcpgroton Sep 13, 2011 06:05 PM

It depends. I brought my remap from a well known performance company, so it was tested like crazy and was well within the limits of the engine.

If the company that did yours did a custom tune, it could cause issues if they are running to much boost. Do you happen to have a boost gauge in your car?

Well the car is stil stock so they didnt have to do a custom remap !!!!!!!! they did a stage 1 remap. But i still cant believe the power we have gained. But no i dont have a boost gage in my car !!! all i can say is that the engine is verry smooth and it pulls like crazy !!!!!!!!

Hello, new member on here. I have just purchased xc90 d5 03 with 107k. It is yet gup have cambelt changed next week. Off is very sluggish. I and thinking of having it remapped. Can anyone advice if safe to do so and does it effect mpg. What power output is expected and does it make a difference?

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum.

Before you consider a remap (tune), you need to do a stage 0 to the car. This means that you need to make sure the car is running like new and that all the maintenance is up to date. Then, I would look into a remap for a well known company like Rica or the like.

A remap will definitely bring some much needed power out the XC90 D5, but a good tune-up may be all it needs.

Had a chip put in yesterday, they said the 163 HP ecu could not be remapped. Only the 185 can. Anyway the chip is in and was promised a realistic increase in power, mpg and general smoothness. I placed the ecu back in myself after it had Been chipped by a professional to save money. Result was a little or no difference what so ever. Then I took it on the motorway and put my foot down to overtake. It moved noticeably quicker. But the normal day to day driving had not improved. Personally thought a 30bhp increase would have made a lot of difference. Not in this case, I called the engineer and explained my disappointment. He said maybe you car has a air leak. Surely this should not effect the difference before and after chip. Anyway lesson learned, I am still yet to pay the bloke for his lack of work. Maybe I won't bother or let him try again. I will keep you updated.

Sorry to add on. I'm getting 310 miles from a full tank on extra urban. Is this figure the average as only had the car 3 weeks?

duncan001 Oct 3, 2011 04:50 AM

Hi there !!!!!!!!! I dont understand why they say your ecu couldnt be remaped. What year moddel is your car ?????????If u google 'we remap any car' and you then click on volvo you will find a hole range of volvos thats been remapped and the power gained Im sure your car is allsow on the list. When they remap your car make sure that they do it over the hole ref range and not just mid range. That will only help you with overtaking but not increase your cars performance as it should !!!!!!!!

Hey, its 2003 model. I spoke to the chip yesterday. He said he did not put up the turbo boost. He can if requested but I'm not sure how reliable it would be as its done 107k. I think the more boost its got the more fuel it would drink. Also I got 310 miles out of the tank before fuel indicator light came on. That's including a 140 round trip on the motorway. I used to get more out of my jeep grand Cherokee. I noticed a crack on the top half of the airbox where you can see one inch of the air filter, its defiantly making a whooshing noise. Could this effect the chip or mpg. The chip guy said it should not effect the performance as the airbox is situated before the air flow sensors. Any truth, doubt in this.

310 miles to a tank is very, very bad. I got better mileage out of my 400HP S60R. You need to figure out what is going on with the fuel issue before you do any mods.

Have you gotten the car to stage zero?

mike xc90 d5 Oct 10, 2011 05:58 PM

stage 0?

Hello, thanks for the reply . I'm not sure what stage 0 means. I assume it getting to run right first. It's had it cambelt changed last week, its sure for an oil change including gearoil next month. I have changed the air filter, cleaned the mass air flow sensor, checked hoses for leaks by feeling around. There's no smoke from the back, the performance is sluggish but I don't know different as only had the car for a month now. I put in a full tank the other day, its done 90 miles and a quarter of fuel had gone according to the fuel gauge. When I filled the tank it showed 460 to empty tank. I have done.90 miles and its now showing 285. Average mpg is 25.9. Not sure what else I can do apart from seeing the useless main dealer who is more interested in selling anything. I am yet to return the ecu for more turbo boost. I love the car but at this rate I am filling up every 10 days.
