Hello! New V70 owner

Hello all, I just acquired my first Volvo this evening and got what I feel to be a great deal on a Silver 03 V70.

More about the car:
Shes a 2003 V70, originally it was advertised as a RWD 2.4T however after looking the car over (without saying anything to seller of course) I was confident this was actually a 2.5T AWD which I confirmed with a VIN decoder. As it turns out the lady selling it was moving back to her home country Brazil and was offloading it because it was not making the journey home with her. So all in all we paid $2000 flat and it was a great experience. Plenty of paperwork outlining maintenance and all that so I am very happy.

The only thing I know the car needs is a timing belt replacement, she has 124k, and the last maintenance record shows the belt replacement was at 68k. The front end is making a whining fuss when turning left, the noise pitch matches wheel speed so I will probably be spending my weekend installing a timing belt kit, and performing an inspection of the driver side axle shaft and all bearings/brakes.

I look forward to meeting, and enjoying the forum with everyone.

Good luck, I had a 2.4t 2003. Make sure you check pcv system (the oil box under manifold), it will kill your car if not serviced, especially near that mileage. No RWD p2's were made, I'm pretty sure. There's only a few that have been modded by mounting the engine longitudinally and reversing the driveshaft, thousands of custom work which I'm sure is not done to a non enthusiast owner's car.

I had to replace my steering knuckle around that mileage. Maybe it will help, probably not. They age depending on conditions, I'm in the rust belt of usa.

Good price for the car. Hope it lasts you another 150,000 miles.

V70 great cars

I have two V-70's. Both are 2001, with one being a standard V-70 wagon (they are at LEAST FWD, as Volvo stopped doing RWD around 1999/2000. The othr is a V-70XC, which is AWD. That one gets less mpg, b/c of the all wheels thing, but is a GREAT car, none the less. The standard V70 has 360K, and the XC has 245K. Still both going strong.

We had to replace the A/C compressor on the XC, but decided not to on the standard, as it has more mileage and is used less, now. Not sure if it makes it all tthe way through 2019...

The noise you are hearing could also be power steering belt, or power steering pump - we've had issues with a small, seemingly unfixable leak in our new PS pump, that I keep an eye on.

Mostly, we've only had to do general maintenance, and \keep up on things like timing belts, and they're going just fine!

Good luck!
