Just got a 2005 XC70 Cross Country...like new.

In 2005 I went to the Volvo dealership with my dad because we were picking up my mom's 60th birthday present. They took it off the showroom floor and my dad and I made the hour drive home to surprise my mom in the driveway...big red bow on top and everything. Well, she loved it, but because my dad did most of the driving on their trips, etc., it just stayed in the garage most of it's life. Since the day my dad and I drove it home, I always mentioned how much I like that car...and I still do.
Well, life happens and my mom passed away unexpectedly 4 months ago at the age of 74. Our family is handling it as any family would. We're doing our best...and we will be OK eventually.

Now back to the Volvo. This weekend I was visiting my dad and he wanted to stop somewhere on our way back to the house from shopping. It was a title company and he transferred the title to me, which was unexpected, but a very nice surprise. I just got it home and it's sitting in my garage. Like I said, it's a 2005 XC70 Cross Country with 54,000 miles and it as close to new as you can get for a 14 year old car. Not a dent or scratch. It always stayed in the garage so the dash is basically like new, as is the rest of the car. I don't think anyone has ever sat in the back seats and the rest of the interior is like new as well...the original floor mats don't have a single stain anywhere. My dad did change the headlight covers a couple of years ago because they hazed up, but other than routine maintenance and new tires, it has just sat there.

Here are a few pics. In the following weeks I have a few questions regarding safety and audio upgrades, leather treatment, etc. I am really excited to own this car for many reasons and look forward to continuing to pamper and enjoy it.

Thanks for looking.

regarding safety, there's nothing to "upgrade", its more about proper maintenance. Even though the car is pristine with low miles, its still 14 years old so I'd have a shop do a general safety inspection - particularly for rubber items like bushings, brake hoses, engine hoses and replace anything suspect. Next I'd do a complete set of fluid changes - when you don't drive a car, it doesn't get hot often enough to boil off any condensation in the crank etc. So start clean with a distilled water flush and refill of the radiator - check for hoses that feel soft and consider replacing the thermostat and the coolant overflow cap as maintenance items. next do a brake flush and a transmission drain/fill - and consider drain fill on the gear oils in the diffs and bevel gear. Also replace air filters, pollen filters as needed. If the car is not already on synthetic oil, time to upgrade.

As to the leather, you can probably find a long list of detailing products on Amazon - google around for some auto leather cleaner/conditioner/moisturizer.

If you decided to upgrade the audio - there's a couple paths to go. You can do an add on adaptor like a Grom to the stock system to gain an MP3 port etc or you can replace the entire head unit with an aftermarket. Many after market units do bluetooth and you may be able to find one that has an LCD display that can take a backup camera. Not sure if the 2005s use the standard "double DIN" radio size or are unique and require a replacement bezel. Check out web stores like Crutchfields for info or search eBay/Amazon for ideas.
