new to forum

hi all new to forum and to volvo had quite a few vehicles but this is my 1st volvo
its a 2004 xc90 2.4 diesel auto had it about 5 month and just done my 1st job on it the intercooler was not to bad to do after watching a video on youtube…
the next thing I want to do is change the power steering fluid but I am not sure on what fluid to use I was thinking of using a fully synthetic red atf
but after seeing a video on the net the guy says no way to use red atf fluid
so can anyone please tell me what fluid to use

check the owners manual for the correct fluid type - most are simple ATF (ie something like Dex III will work). Not sure of the upside of using synthetic as its only acting as hydraulic fluid. Perhaps that internet poster was pointing out that synthetic oils are slipperier - and may leak through old seals where traditional fluids won't but thats just a guess. For a choice, I'd simply stick with Volvo standards. As far as replacing the fluid, the easy way is to use a turkey baster or simple fluid pump to pull the old fluid out of the reservoir then refill. start the car, turn lock to lock 3-4 times then shut down. If you repeat this 3-4 times you'll use up about 1 quart of ATF and have a red color fluid in the reservoir - no brown...
