Hi all. New member here. First time Volvo user. Just purchased a 2002 Volvo V70 XC with 93,000 miles on it. Nice car for what I need. Have not had time to tear into it yet but as far as I can tell, it only has 3 issues for me to adjust. A crack in one tail light, the hinge on the center console is broken and the front passenger door look will not automatically lock or unlock.

One question that I have though-- I have a V70 Cross Country. Is it a XC70 or V70 XC? I am so confused by what I see on the web.

Thanks!

Good to see a relatively new p2 owner. I've had an 03 v70 for past 5 years and just picked up an 01 t5. Great, reliable cars. Hope you looked up maintenance though, because unmaintained, they're killers. Check the pcv and make sure you know when timing was done. For pcv just fit a nitrile glove over the oil deposit - if it sucks in, good. If it blows out, your oil system needs servicing. Timing belt sticker should be on lower left black box in engine bay.

Also, anything from before 2003 has the infamous aisin transmission flare from 2-3 gear. If you don't have it now, you will eventually. check your tranny fluid dipstick to the bottom right of the engine block, underneath a hose. It should be a yellow circle. If it's red, awesome. If the fluid is brownish/black, plan on replacing 4-12 qts of 3309 CERTIFIED transmission fluid. Another/additional fix for this, and best to do before flushing/draining is fixing a b4 transmission servo update into the trans. Gotta take the driver front wheel off and pry the old servo out. Internet has plenty of resources for this. toyota/ipd sells the fluid cheap. You can get the servo for 20 dollars. Easiest way is just flush transmission with ipd method (bout 12-14 qts), but risks breaking tranny if it's already going bad. Safest is draining fluid, replacing, driving 50-100 miles, and repeating until fluid is red.

Also, look up robDIY on youtube for helpful tips for most older volvo engines/maintenance.

For your question - v70 2002 cross country I believe is always xc70. I am pretty sure v70xc is the last p1 v70 they made as an awd - the 2000 model. Hope this clears something up. Good luck with your new Volvo!
