Hi Folks....My name is Dave..Greetings from the Queen city of the Ozarks, Springfield, Missouri..I just bought a 2001 S80 2.9L, I know...I should have done some research before buying...I've already read Horror stories about them...Maybe I'll get lucky, who knows..too late now...I do a lot of maintenance on my own cars when possible...so maybe that will cut the costs a little.

You'all have a GREAT day...see ya 'round campus !!!

Welcome to the forum, I hope you find it helpful.

Be sure to follow scheduled maintenance, and post technical questions either in the S80 forum or General Volvo Chat.

Best of luck to you,

JPN

Wow. Are you lucky. You own a Volvo and live in the same city as Bass Pro Shops. I'm sooooooo jealous.

Yes..Bass Pro Shop Headquarters is just about 3 miles from me....I can remember when they first started back in about 1960...in a Brown Derby Liquor store.

I don't know how lucky I am on the Volvo..I haven't even taken possession yet..just put a deposit on it..I do wish I would have read about 1999-2003 S80 BEFORE the fact..I've read about 200 reviews and about 45 % say they would never buy another Volvo after woning one of these..then the other 55% say it's the best car they ever owned and never had a problem with them...we'll see what percentage I'm in now...kind of scary....don't know whether to get extended warranty insurance or not..it's kind of expensive...may just take my chances...

Well there are two main problems that I am aware of with the S80, the ETM and the transmission. The ETM is covered by the extended warranty but the transmission isn't. Generally I shy away from the extended warranties. Just have it checked by a trusted mechanic before taking final possession. This will ease your mind some.
