I'm not really new, but thought I should post here:).

Just finished the Timing belt, water pump, S-belt, thermostat...with the help of the board...especially Tech. I did my research here before we bought our '01 XC70 with 88k a 4 months ago....the PO gave us all the maint records and did all repairs at the Volvo dealer...even light bulb changes=O....so we really know the history.

In addition to the above repairs, we bought new tires. Our next fix is replacing the 'bevel' gear. The outer bearing to right front wheel is spinning. So far the lowest price, I found was $700 shipped.

My '91 4Runner has 380+k, so I hope to keep the Volvo going just as long.

Welcome Alfred. If you need any other info on the V/XC 70, tech is the man. I've been learning the ins and outs of the '01 myself so I'm sure you and I will have the same problems down the road.

So far, I will tell you if you do encounter transmission slips, the Lucas Oil Stop Slip is great. I'm very impressed with the performance of the substance.

I just added the Lucas power steering stop leak as well since I have an incredibly slow leak somewhere and can't seem to find it (although I think I know where it might be).

Make sure you check the power steering fluid reservior. I drove mine for about a week when I first bought it when I discovered it was empty. I was lucky.

Since changing all of the fluids and fixing the little bugs (and of course, the belts and pulley replacement) it's been running incredibly smooth.

FYI; the engine runs much smoother with Premium 92/93 (which is recommended) then it does with 89 and 87, and you will also see a noticable mileage increase with premium over the other two. The price difference is made up by the mileage increase.
