Hi guys,

Just joined the group. I am a car enthusiast and have a 1998 V70 20V which I've owned for the last 7 or so years that I use as a run around. Although I have had newer faster/fancier cars, I still enjoy driving my old V70 very much!

Hope to learn more about the car so I can fix minor issues myself.

Default fellow Tasmanian, who'd have thought?

Hi d3syd, great to see a fellow Tasmanian on here. I have an 850 sedan that is on the way back. I'm in Perth Tas. Where abouts are you? I realise your post is a bit old but how are the repairs going?

Hi bigdannyoh, I'm in Scamander. Still have my V70. It has about 177k on the clock and is still going strong. Engine doesn't consime oil and is smooth as ever! Problems I have had are just minor things that are expected of a car this age like replacement of shocks, cv joints, etc. A few years ago had an issue with the throttle position sensor that too a while to find. The guys at Pride Auto in Launnie eventually worked it out. ABS module wasn't working when I first thr car about 8 years ago, got it reconditioned by someone in the US for $150, no probs since then.
Cheers.

Default Nice to hear.

Just had my 850 in at Pride Autos, good guys there! Had the rear main seal done, timing belt, aerial mast, and service. They found the PCV was blocked. It also had a stalling issue which seems to have cleared now after they cleaned the throttle barrel (?). Runs like a dream now. I had the front bearings changed last year and the brakes done. I am in the process of sorting out a central locking issue which still lingers even though I have replaced the door lock actuator. I am also keen to upgrade to a cd player and really want to stay with the Volvo version. Next job is a new steering rack as the car fights a bit turning long left hand bends. The paint was faded and so was the rubber. Both look really good now. I wish it was a newer model so I had more options for parts but on the other hand I kinda like having something almost unique. Mine is white. What colour is your V70? cheers!

Instead of stalling, mine used to idle fine but rev wildly while driving, causing the transmission to likewise suddenly change up and down at random. Turned out to be a dirty throttle position sensor. Mine is a 1998 model, dark blue in colour.

Different topic I know but seems as how you are local, where would you go to get a new steering rack? Would you trust re conditioned?

I'm no expert, but I suppose a recondition rack would be ok. How much do you save compared to a new one?

I would probably take it to Pride Auto seeing they know a bit about Volvos.
