New to Volvo and this forum
Thanks to all of you experienced Volvo owners and techs. Have been reading a lot as concerns the 2004 S60 (128,000 miles, 5 speed AT, FWD, non-turbo). We are second owners.
Totaled the 1997 Accord, found a 2005 Accord I could afford. Took wife to see it. Did the test drive. She got out, looked around, eyes got huge, "They sell everything here!" Drove a Jag, M-B, Infinity, 2 Accuras, Audi, VW, and then the S60. By then it was cold and dark. The seat heaters in the S60 were on. Halfway around the test loop, she said, "I like this car, its nice and cozy."
So I called our son, "I need car advice"
"That seems wrong somehow."
"I agree, seems like this conversation is backwards. How do you like that Volvo you bought last year?"
"Great car, no problems, would definately buy another. Why?"
"I totaled Moms Accord, she found a 2004 S60 and wants it."
"No way."
"Way. Tell me about yours."
"2004 S60 Turbo AWD. Was supposed to be my car but (D-I-L) took it for hers, and won't give it back. Haven't had a problem with it in 14 months."
"Thanks son, thats all I need to know."
Bought it from a fixed margin dealer, got it about 45% off Black Book retail. Found out why 11 days later when it died while turning left. And once or twice a week for 6 more weeks until I found a Volvo authorized warrenty repair shop, and took it in. Wiped and reloaded the software for the ECM. Runs like a fine mechanical watch. Only cost $126.
Long story short, I'm impressed. I work in the aviation industry in a engineering/technical position. I like most aspects of the S60 and believe it will be as reliable as the 6 Hondas that went over 250,000 miles each with only scheduled maintenance.
