New Volvo owner
I never thought that I would own a Volvo but when my neighbor asked me to help him sell his friends car I liked what I saw and said I will buy it. So I bought a 2008 Volvo S80 T6. The owner had brought the car to a Volvo repair shop because of a whining noise coming from the back of the car. The diagnosis was a failed rear pinion shaft bearing. That and the rear brakes brought the repair total to around $3,000. There was also the rear trunk lid only opening with the metal key from the key fob, and the blower motor making allot of noise. I know that each car comes with a common list of problems and that car forums have enthusiasts that love their vehicles and love repairing them because repairs are expensive and learning how to do things themselves can be rewarding and new. I have been bored because of Covid 19 and also unable to work. So my time is cheap and my hope is to repair this car and then put it on the road for me and my wife to drive. I have done quite a bit of work on the car already. The car has over 111,000 miles and the transmission does not have a dip stick. It has a T55 fill plug and the double drain plug. What should you do to this transmission to properly service it? Do you need Volvo soft ware to reset computer that controls transmission? Thanks for your help.
