"New" Volvo s60r Owner

Hey all,

I just bought myself a college graduation gift of a 2004 s60r. Although it's not my first Volvo ('95 850 Turbo and a '90 740 Turbo which I learned to drive on), I'm more than excited to have this one.

One note though, if anyone has some advice:

When I acquired the car, I noticed that the right back break lights were not working. I figured it would just be a burnt bulb, but to my demise it appears to be something shorting the system.

The culprit is in the passenger compartment, on left side of dash. Fuse #31. There are 4 fuse boxes in the car. The schematic calls for a 7.5 amp fuse; there was a 5 amp fuse in. I plugged in a new fuse and it popped right away when I turned on the lights. I don't have any 7.5amps. I then put in a 10amp, and it blew. There are all new bulbs in the both ends. There has to be a short somewhere.

Does anyone have any suggestions/ know of any common faults?

Thanks,

Tartan

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Does the fuse blow as soon as you insert the fuse or when you hit the brakes?

Pics of the car would be nice. :)

No, the fuse is blowing as soon as I put it in. I think I've narrowed down every possibility besides the wiring harness itself. The car did have some slight front end body work, so it wouldn't surprise me if they shorted a wire... will be a bear to find.

The pictures are attached. ;) It's all stock for now.
