Replacing the cem ona 2002 Volvo s40

If one buys a new central electronic module (cem) and then they must download all data from the old cem to the new cem (then) what is the procedure to do it and what kind of software is required?

I am planning on replacing the cem in my 2002 Volvo s40 and I may need to do this. So I need a reference on how to do it.

Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

the CEM in the gen 1 Volvos doesn't have any software as far as I know - its mostly relays etc. When I swapped out the CEM on my 00, it was plug and play. Also note the CEM should be the same for the 00 to 04s. Newer models do require the CEM to be paired but not the Gen 1s.

This is correct for generartion 1 central lectronic module

Thank you for your response. You just confirmed what i thought. I am tempted to agree that 00- 2004 Volov s40's are all the same. But theyy do have separate part numbers and knowing Volvo that is distinction with a difference.

Volvo must be different. They must follw their own lead.

I think I paid $65 for my replacement from a yard.
