v70 oil top up message

Hello, just joined this forum and am looking for advice please. On a recent trip my 2014 V70 dashboard messages displayed 'oil level low top up one litre' together with a red warning triangle. I duly topped up 1 litre but after 24 hours the message and warning triangle remain displayed. There are no fault messages displayed when interrogating the ecu. Roadside assistance could find no error codes at all and determined that oil pressures and levels are fine. Car did not go into limp mode and drives as well as ever. oil pressure light is off. Local Volvo service agent cannot look at it for 10 days. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, what was the outcome?
All info gratefully received.

Does your engine have a dipstick?

I have seen several bad oil level sensors. Probably just a bad oil level sensor in the oil pan. what engine do you have?

Thanks for your interest. No dipstick I'm afraid. engine is 2 ltr. D4. Ironically, since I posted earlier both the message and warning light have reset. I suspect as you suggested a dodgy sensor.

Maybe it had to wait for the correct situation to read the oil level again and shut off. The same parameters as if you wanted to read the oil level yourself.

"Additional time may be necessary for a proper oil level reading. You may need to drive approximately 20 miles (30 km) or have been parked on level ground with the engine off for up to two hours before the oil level read out will be correct." - Volvo Manual
