Want to be a Volvo owner, but thought I'd check here first
 

My name is Justin D. Fender, I'm a husband, a father, and a youth pastor.

I have a very varied past when it comes to vehicles, I am currently selling my 1999.5 Audi A4 Avant 1.8T Quattro, once it sells I am going to put some money in the bank for the family and keep about a grand to get a vehicle that will get me around dependably for a year or two... maybe 10.

Back around '90-'91 my dad bought my sister a used '84 Volvo 760, silver with blue interior, auto, fully loaded. It came from a Volvo family and did quite while... for a short amount of time, then it spent most of the rest of the time we owned it in the shop (my dad usually does all out mechanic work, so for it to be in a shop was something new to me). I sort of wrote off Volvos after that, but I've come back around.

I need to learn as much as I can about which engine to look for, anything to avoid, common problems, and normal repair/parts costs before I jump into a little purchase, hopefully this forum will help me out.
