Turbo Questions

I'm new to Volvo. I've owned older model BMW's mainly because I loved their smooth/quiet basic inline 6. Moved to Boston from Virginia so driving in a real rear drive BMW is out and I hear too many maintenance/repair issues with the Xdrive. Test drove a used 2013 and loved it! I really don't think I need all wheels with the type if driving I do but my only concern is the fact that I'm stuck having to go to a turbocharged engine. I drive my cars until my wheels fall off... Are there ANY additional maintenance/repair issues I need to concern myself with in a turbocharged engine? Are turbochargers easy to replace? Do they decrease the life of the engine? Will I be able to get 200K + out of a turbocharged engine without going broke doing so? I really to stay with the S60 and hope the answers I get here make it easier for me to pull the trigger. Thanks in advance!

The biggest issue IMO with turbo's is they are more sensitive to oil quality/condition than the rest of the engine. My solution is full synthetic oil every 5K miles. My '02 S60 has 178K on the original turbo with no signs of issues.

Are S60's east to work on? I enjoy doing basic maintenance, such as oil changes. I'm guessing changing plugs on these cars is out of the question...

As pkrface said, just make sure you stay up on the oil changes and you should have no issues with the turbo. I don't think I've ever seen one fail that was not due to owner neglect. It also will not shorten the life of the engine at all.

Plugs are easy, you should have no problem with changing them.
