Default 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited X 4x4

So I'm thinking of ditching the Volvo line up and picking up a 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited X 4x4. I built one on the Jeep website and it came out to around $24,000 and some change. That is with the options I wanted.

I know Car and Driver loved this vehicle. I like it a lot too.

Do any of you guys own one as your second car or know anyone with one? I want a better car in the snow then I have now. Volvo's AWD just doesn't cut it for me.

I've always been a Toyota Landcruiser guy, but we do have 3 jeeps at our ranch. A 68 Jeepster Commando, a 95 Wrangler, and a 99 Wrangler. All of them are very good vehicles. They get driven about 95% offroad, and we've never had any trouble with them. Reliable, easy to work on, easy to get and cheap parts, and they are really fun to drive. If you end up getting one, go with a Manual. It makes things a lot better. I'm sure you will not be dissapointed with a 2007.

Thank you for your input. However I would be getting an automatic. I do not know how to drive manual. My g/f tried to teach me and said I was doing really good and then I tried to go into second and forgot the clutch and got very frustrated and just quit.

I don't know about the Wrangler and how Jeep is now, but everything I have heard about the Cherokee is that it is an utter piece of junk.

Do your research THOROUGHLY because you don't want to have any regrets in the future...Especially with such a major purchase.

If you get a wrangler be sure to get an 08 (or newer) The first batch of JK wranglers have had some pretty bad issues. Mainly electrical gremlins. They are very sturdy and reliable vehicles but don't count on it to be ANYTHING like a Volvo. It's just as safe but everything else will be different. I know the TJ wranglers will run forever just like a Volvo but I don't know about the JK's yet.

Hope that helps

I know I want it because it isn't anything like my Volvo I have now. One it is a 4x4 and my AWD Volvo sucks in the snow. I got stuck.

You might find this thread of some use. Ask the dealer about it if you buy that jeep.

haha...you should try to learn again. Try it out on some crappy car that no one really cares about, then if you do screw something up, you won't feel as bad. IMO manuals are sooo much better/fun than automatics... I love everything about my 960 except the fact that it's an automatic. I'd go crazy if I didn't have the jeeps. lol

That's a good point - the new unlimited mileage powertrain warranty. And I agree with zmontgomery that you should try manuals again. Try a rental car, hehe. I've had many friends with 4.0L manuals and they're a whole lot of fun.

It was in a Caviler that I tried to learn manual. Wont try it again. Just didn't flow with me.

I just test drove one of the Jeeps today. Loved it!!!

glad to hear you liked it. I've been driving the 68 Commando (it's like an enlarged super old school wrangler) for the last few days around our ranch. So very different from the volvo and so much fun. I really like the whole aspect of not having a roof, it almost makes me want to buy a jeep for a second car. Sadly I don't have the money. If you do make the purchase, you will enjoy it thoroughly...manual or automatic
