5cyl 280z

I love odd engines. vr6s 5cyls rotaries.
so now that I have a 280z with a motor that has questionable wiring I am thinking about what i could replace it with. I am a complete noob when it comes to volvos and what is available, so I'm here to see if someone can point me in the right direction. I want to stay rwd and manual. i think it is possible with volvos but how much is it going to cost? any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers!

It will cost a lot.

Here is the short parts list for mounting a whiteblock to T5, start searching for prices. Then you'll need all supporting parts to mount the combo onto the car, then you'll need to get engine management. You'll also need to know how to weld or have a buddy that does.

If you like the Volvo 5 cylinder, maybe you would like the car that comes with it! Worth a try.

Here's a thought: diesel power. It's not your mom and dad's diesel. Might be a small truck engine that would fit right in there with turbo power and that distinctive diesel clatter.

If you like RWD, look into the 940 and 960 volvos with a choice of a 4 cyl turbo or an NA 6. If you really want an interesting project, there are kits available to install a small block V8 into the 700/900 chassis. I actually saw one of the cleanest installs ever at Volvo of Westport - it had the techs all agog... but that may have been because the owner was Paul Newman :-)
