Anyone into RC cars?

I was wondering if anyone is into RC cars?
I have been into them for years but they have always been to much money to keep up with.

But now they are pretty reasonable to play with.

Here is the collection in my house. I am going to try to race locally for fun in the next few months.

I have a Volvo 850 BTCC R/C car, 1:10 scale. Ran it a few times outside. Other then that sits on my shelf.

Cool I was always into them but never had the dough to get one....

Are yours gas or electric? They look electric.....

tech 03-29-2009 09:48 PM

All of them are electric.

The prices of them have come way down.
You can buy a ready to run truck for less than $200.00.

I didn't know you had all of those. You only told me about the new one. That's cool. I remember the Hornet! I could never afford one of those back in the day.

tech 03-30-2009 07:54 PM

Yes but you should be able to now.

They are cool to play with.

SWEET !! I love the old school Hornet and the Blackfoot ! I always wanted a Hornet when I was younger. I had a Blackfoot which I geared all crazy and it darn near went as fast (top speed wise) as my old school Team Associated RC-10. Of course it took awhile to get up to speed with my jerry-riged set-up and then the inevitable happened; the gearbox eventually gave out. We used to have an awesome indoor dirt track around here but it closed down after about 3 years. Now the only place in the area to race is the corner of a parking lot at the local Hobby shop. They race the small on-road cars there. I've wanted to get back into it but man that stuff has really gotten expensive ! Every once in a while I get to drive my buddies T-Maxx and that thing is crazy !!

The stuff is alot cheaper now actually.
Also check this site to see if there is any tracks near you.

If it's gotten cheaper I'll have to check back into it! I suppose it doesn't help that when I was looking back into it before I was looking into the top-dawg nitro powered cars and trucks...lol...Thanks for getting the gears turning in my head again. Time to start eBaying, craigslisting, searching for forums, etc. Got any more good links to palces to buy, reviews, info, etc? Can't decide to go with car or truck?

AWESOME! I knew the Blackfoot was still available but not the Hornt or Frog. 3 classics IMO. And thanks for the links. Can you still buy them as a kit you put together yourself? That's what I would probably want to do (assemble one myself). Do they still make the old-school RC-10's like the one in the attached image? That is what I used to have when I was younger, along with the Blackfoot.

tech 04-05-2009 09:44 PM

Im not 100% sure but look on the sites and see if they do.

Funny you bring this up, Tech. I work @ a motorsports dealership and we just built an indoor track for electric RC cars. I am not a fan, but I know pretty much every guy in the store is . . . About half of the employees have one or more rc car/truck.

I believe we get all of our stuff through this place:

They are fun to mess around with.

Still expensive though. I'm sure it may be cheaper than before, but still spendy for a toy.

tech 04-11-2009 05:27 PM

Well it depends on how you look at it.
People spend $200.00 on an Ipod for a toy to listen to music.
I don't listen to all that much music so I can take that $200.00 and spend it on a different toy.

I LOVE music, so an ipod would be the way to go for me. I still won't spend that on an ipod though. It's because I'm cheap!

tech 04-11-2009 08:14 PM

Well with 4 kids I never have time to listen to an Ipod so that's out for me!!!
With the car the kids can drive it as well. So it is a win/win for me. LOL

I have a $100 Radioshack Ferrari. It is pretty fast, I think it goes over 20 mph. It needs better tires, spins too much when starting off and they wear pretty fast. Me and my friend will play with it when we are drinking and it keeps us entertained.

CASS60 04-13-2009 08:02 PM

Keeping 4 kids entertained is not only a distraction from some of your own interests, it's a DAMN miracle!

It's great when you can get the kids involved.

In related news, the RC track has been open in the dealership about 2 weeks. It's $5 to practice and we have a full house on Saturdays, (not that I'd know, I do not work saturdays.) It does get a little loud and distracting if you have to actually work in a large "toy" store.
