To Cruise or Not To Cruise...
 

That is a question... My wife and I just got back from a 4 day cruise to the Bahamas. My wife is sensative to the cold and boy was it cold. Everywhere we went, even the Keywest. They said that it hasn't been that cold in 130 years. Dang!!!

We have been married for about 24 years and had never been on a cruise before. I kept telling my wife that it would be in the upper 70's and low to mid 80's, man was I wrong. The warmest temp was 63 degrees. The average temp during the day was about 56 degrees with a 20 mph wind, felt like 45.

Other than that the food was pretty good and there sure was a lot to do. We over did it trying to keep up with my cousins, that were showing us the ropes, big mistake trying to keep up with them. We are the type that like to relax when away from home.

Maybe we'll give it one more try one day. This time take it easy and make sure we have clothes for the right weather. :cool:

Man, if you need any advice on cruises or the caribbean let me know.. I go to the Bahamas 1 or 2x a year. I used to go on a cruise and then just started to fly in since I have more time to explore. I love eluthera and Nassau, but being in Orlando it's only a 30 minute fligh from ground to ground. Airtime is like 20 minutes. I still cruise since there are last minute fares from Port Canaveral or Port Everglades (miami) that are normally dirt cheap and is only a short drive for me. I grew up in the Caribbean so I also was fortunate enough to Island Hop to most of the Islands on the Caribbean

I'm not a fan of cruises. When I travel (and I have been to 20+ countries so far), I like to actually be in the country. Just from looking at how atypical port areas are, you can tell how limited your experience will be.

Nothing against people that do it, its just not something I am interested in!

Hey Somthngfrce, good to know. Next time I may pm you to get some tips. We did go to Nassau and went to see Atlantus. It was a nice site but we may take a Vacation there next time and stay at that island for a week and just kick back. We'll see next time we head that direction.

I found out that my brother is headed to Disney. Also, I have a sister that lives in Orlando. She has 2 grown kids and they are still there as well. Next time I visit I'll let you know. Maybe we can have coffee or something.

Which cruise line? I have only been on Royal Caribbean.

I've been on 2 cruises one to the Carribbean; Labadee, Grand Cayman, Ocho Rios, Cozumel, etc. Also a European cruise that left from London to Scotland, Ireland, Norway, Paris, etc. Of the two I'm gonna have to say that the Europe one was much better.

The clientel on the European one was older than the Carribbean one, which was better and worse at the same time. It was quieter, but the rich old people can get bitchy at times.

Personally, I love cruising. Food is free, in Norway a hamburger at port cost $40.00 US dollars. We snacked and then had lunch when we got back on the ship for free! The only thing about Europe that was annoying was that all of the destination cities were far from the port so we ended up bussing in usually around 2-3 hrs. in a us each way.

Lol, No it wasn't! It cost you whatever you paid for the cruise.. BTW, I love Ocho Rios. Jamaica in general is Awesome

2 cruises for my family (4 people) and my cousin family (4 people) and herself. So...9 people in total. Oh yeah, she also took us to Disney world the year before.

Thats the thing though, you think that food at port is so expensive, so you eat on the ship. If you weren't limited to the port areas (aka not traveling by cruise), you would see how inexpensive and good food is in the REAL place you are traveling to (usually).

Oh yes, I agree with that! Whenever I go to Nassau, I ALWAYS get off and eat locally. There's a place called the "Fishfry" and all the locals go there at night to eat. It's super inexpensive and greaat!

True, true. We usually ate somewhere at port, but sometimes when it's $40 for a cheeseburger, it's better to wait.
