How much oil do I really need???
 

Just wondering, because that's the way I am. If I'm driving down the freeway at 65 mph in the S70, and the car was instantly frozen, how much oil would be in the oil pan? Could these car run on 3 quarts? How much EXTRA oil is in the motor?

Wow...things to make you go "Hmmm"...I know redblocks run fine on 3 quarts as far as not making noise and having good oil pressure (yeah, I know, o.p. has nothing to do w/ quantity). But...I have no idea what driving w/ 25% less oil than recommended does for longevity. Obviously, the more oil, the more heat dissipation. If I were to hazard a guess, I'd say that at any given time there is at least 2.5 quarts in the pan at the least. I know when I build motors and prime the oil system it takes an amazingly small amount to fill the system. Obviously turbos and oil coolers keep more oil in the system...the oil coming out of the drain tube of a turbo is emulsified looking and frothy...just thought I'd add that for no particular reason...

Now I'm wondering how much oil is actually floating around in the motor, turbo, etc., after the pan is drained for an oil change???

During an oil change it usually takes between 6 to 6.4 quarts to fill it back up.
I would say maybe a 1/4 of a quart is left in the motor.
I have seen these cars 4 to 5 quarts low on oil and still run.

I think I'm going to put 3 qtrs less in all of my car to save money on oil changes.

If you add Slick 50, you don't need oil at all.

Ooops, I forgot it was taken off the market after Exxon/Mobil bought the company.

I actually put some slick 50 in my 262C Bertone when the cam bearings started knocking. I drove the car a couple more years with that in it. I did see some infamercial about some other stuff they were selling. They was showing the car engine running with water and sand all over it.

Ah yes, the PRV motor is quite fond of both water and sand!
